Getting started with Visual Data Discovery

Visual Data Discovery enables you to transform your data into easily comprehended dynamic charts for ease of visualisation and further analysis of data. As a Discovery function Visual Data Discovery allows you to answer a raft of questions about the different facets of your data.

To begin using Visual Data Discovery, open a new or existing Data View via the Data Drawer.

If you are starting with a new view, drag the dimensions and hierarchies to the axes (rows, columns and slicers).

Once you have entered or created a Data View and would like to enable visual data discovery, select the enable visual data discovery (chart) icon, and to begin constructing charts select the design or design slim user interface.

Moving between display modes

There are two ways that you can move through displays within visual data discovery; selecting the display mode you wish to view, and cycling through display modes by continually clicking the chart icon.

When you hover over the visual data discovery icon you will be offered the different display options (Design Slim, Design, View Chart, Chart, View). From here, you can select the display mode you wish to view.

Display Modes

Design Slim Allows you to view both your chart and data view simultaneously whilst also altering chart design. On the right hand side of this view you can alter the chart type you are using by selecting the individual chart icons on the right. At the top of the right hand toolbar an arrow appears. Selecting this arrow will expand out the chart properties toolbar moving you into design display mode.
Design The Design display mode shows your data view, chart and chart properties toolbar expanded out
View Chart View Chart enables you to view both your chart and data view simultaneously without the chart properties toolbar.
Chart Chart display mode allows you to view your chart in isolation. It allows for ease of drilling down and consumption of data.
View Allows you to return to Data view. This display configuration is the same as the view that will appear when you select the Data Drawer.
